Fairview

Fairview Real Estate

There are some multi-unit Victorians and a small number of duplexes, but apartments and condominiums are by far the most common housing options in Fairview. Newer 10-story+ condos and some taller apartment complexes dot the landscape, but most housing is a remnant of pre-1970s zoning that only allowed three-story buildings. Like any area near downtown, Fairview’s housing prices and rents have been rising steadily in the last few years, though buying in Fairview is still less expensive than in areas farther west.

Fairview – Vancouver Community Information

Fairview, sometimes referred to as South Granville or Fairview Slopes (both areas within Fairview), is located on the west side of Vancouver. Fairview runs from 16th Avenue in the south, to Burrard Street in the west, to Cambie Street in the east, and to False Creek in the north.

For families or couples where one person works downtown and another works anywhere south, Fairview is an ideal location. Access to almost anywhere in the city couldn’t be faster with easy access to the city’s main commuter roads. Transit is a convenient option with two Canada Line stations in Fairview as well as buses along Broadway that will get you to UBC in about 20 minutes.

Central Broadway is an important commercial and employment centre focused around Vancouver General Hospital and other health-related institutions. Some city offices are located on the eastern fringe of Fairview, across Cambie Street from Vancouver City Hall.

Fairview Restaurants and Shopping

Some of the city’s most famous restaurants can be found in Fairview including, West, four-time winner of Vancouver Magazine’s Restaurant of the Year Award, and Vij’s, proclaimed “among the finest Indian restaurants in the world,” by The New York Times.

Shopping areas in the neighbourhood include, Central Broadway, South Granville Rise, City Square Mall, and Granville Island. Also in the Fairview neighbourhood, is South Granville. Famous for its “gallery row” of art galleries, its antique and modern furniture stores, and its bevy of home décor shops, this unique shopping district is a perfect place to check out when decorating your new home.

The Pacific Centre Shopping Mall is home to a wide array of shopping, including Holt Renfrew, the Bay and Sears department stores. More shops line the surrounding Granville and Robson Streets. High end and designer shoppes are close by at Alberni St. and Burrard. The downtown shopping district has something for everyone.

Fairview Residents

With its multitude of housing options, Fairview attracts a diverse range of residents. Urban professionals and students make up the largest demographic with 42% of residents between the ages of 20 and 39. Young families and seniors are also common though, as in many other apartment heavy areas in downtown Vancouver, large families including those with more than one child are rare.

Fairview Parks and Recreation

Parks are scattered throughout Fairview, making it easy to find a spot to walk the dog, a place to play tennis or soccer, or a playground for the kids. If you love city views, Charleson Park provides breathtaking views of downtown, particularly at night.

Granville Island, probably the most distinct landmark in Fairview, attracts 10 million visitors a year. Shops, restaurants, community centres, theatres, schools and a large public market make up the landscape of Granville Island. Celebrations and events throughout the year are hosted here, making it a great place for family fun.

The South Granville area of Fairview is also home to the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage, the main stage for the Arts Club Theatre Company, one of city’s best live-theatre venues.
