Yaletown – Vancouver Neighbourghood Information
Yaletown is an area of Downtown Vancouver bordered by False Creek, Robson, and Homer Streets. Formerly a heavy industrial area dominated by warehouses and rail yards, since Expo ‘86, it has been transformed into one of the most densely populated and trendiest neighbourhoods in the city. The marinas, parks, high rise apartment blocks, and converted heritage buildings make Yaletown one of the most unique areas in Vancouver. With the newly constructed Canada Line station located on Davie at Pacific Street, access to most areas of Vancouver (and as far as the airport) from Yaletown has never been more convenient.
Yaletown Restaurants and Shopping
Yaletown’s historic district hosts some of the most unique dining options in the city. The Glowbal group’s flagship restaurant as well as Section(3), The Cactus Club and Rodney’s Oyster House are just a few of the gems in the area. Hip urban boutique shoppes, restaurants of every fare and an array of hair salons and wellness spas line Mainland and Hamilton Streets.
The area’s flagship grocer, Save-On Food’s first Urban Fare is located on Davie Street, between Marinaside Crescent and Pacific Street.
The majority of Yaletown residents are young professionals between 20 and 40. The neighborhood is also home to young start up families and a growing number of empty-nesters.
Locals here are an active bunch who can often be found walking their dogs in the area’s parks or cruising the seawall with stroller and a latte in tow. The Urban Fare, the Roundhouse Community Centre and David Lam park are local favorites. There is no lack of yoga studios, gyms, great restaurants and nightlife in Yaletown and residents take full advantage of their ease of access.
Yaletown Parks and Recreation
The Roundhouse Community Centre is located on Pacific Blvd. and Davie St., here locals can participate in a variety of community events and classes for all ages and a range of interests. David Lam park is a common hangout on sunny days for locals with a large field for impromptu soccer games and tanning sessions. Cooper’s park is a dog park located near the Cambie Street Bridge where Yaletown residents can bring their dogs off-leash. Community children’s playgrounds are scattered throughout, the largest being in the area of David Lam Park nearest to Elsie Roy Elementary School. A stroll along the seawall will lead you to public Tennis courts which are accessible to residents and visitors alike.
